Selling Your Home?
Depersonalising and Decluttering are Key.

Selling a house is more than just listing it online and waiting for buyers to fall in love. It’s about creating a space where they can see themselves living. One of the most important steps in this process is depersonalising and decluttering – and this is where I can help.

Why Depersonalisation Matters

I remember when my husband and I were looking at purchasing a house, we walked into someone's home and it was LOUD. The colours on the walls were bright and the house was full of clutter. I couldn’t even visualise my couch in that lounge.

When potential buyers walk into your home, you want them to imagine their own furniture in the space, their family photos on the walls, and their own memories being made. If your home is filled with personal items—family portraits, kids’ artwork, or unique decor—it can be harder for them to picture it as their home. The goal is to create a neutral, welcoming environment that appeals to the widest range of buyers.

Decluttering for a Better First Impression

Clutter can be a major distraction. A home filled with excess furniture, overflowing cupboards, and cluttered benchtops can make spaces feel smaller and less inviting. A tidy, well-organised home feels more spacious, allows buyers to focus on the property itself, and can even increase the perceived value.

If you’ve followed my work, you’ll know I’ve spoken before about the impact of digital clutter and mental clutter (link to previous blog). The same principles apply here—when a home is physically cluttered, it can create a sense of overwhelm and make it harder for buyers to connect emotionally with the space.

How I Can Help

Preparing a home for sale can feel daunting, but you don’t have to do it alone. I work with homeowners to:
✔ Sort through belongings and decide what to pack away, donate, or discard
✔ Rearrange furniture to maximise space and flow
✔ Organise cupboards and storage areas (yes, buyers will look!)
✔ Create a clean, neutral look that enhances the home’s best features

Having an experienced eye to help make these decisions can take the stress out of the process and ensure your home is presented in the best possible way.
